Abstract

Soil Taxonomy, a soil classification system, was created to help organize knowledge about soils. Soils are grouped into 12 orders in the system based on soil forming processes and soil attributes. Soil Taxonomy incorporates climate by using the soil moisture and the temperature regimes to define lower categories. The system enables soillandscape relationships to be established and accounts for all known soils in addition to facilitating soil management in a sustainable manner. Soil Taxonomy is a powerful tool for soil quality assessments and mitigation measures. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
