Abstract

Ionic liquids (ILs) and Deep Eutectic solvents (DES) have taken the world by storm due to their green credentials and applications in various fields. But the recent research has showed that they are not green in true sense. This is when new derivative of DES, i.e., Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES) came into picture which are equally efficient as ionic liquids and DES but are greener in true sense. This research features the synthesis and characterization of a naturally occurring salt i.e., Epsom Salt (HBA) and glycerine (HBD) based NADES. Thermophysical properties such as density, surface tension, viscosity, refractive index, and pH have been found between temperature of 289.15 K to 333.15 K. FTIR and 1HsbndNMR have been conducted to analyze the bonding between HBD and HBA. Thermogravimetric analysis has been carried out between 0 and 500 °C. Results show that Eutectic mixture has been achieved when Epsom salt and glycerine were mixed with 1:2 at 50 °C at 100 rpm. FTIR and 1HsbndNMR confirm the bonding between sulphate group from Epsom salt and -OH from gylcerine. TGA confirms its thermal stability upto 200 °C. This NADES will be a potential candidate for many researchers, to check its efficacy, in their respective fields. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.
