Single-hop V2V Periodic Safety Beacons will function as the heartbeat of the VANET, making vehicles aware of the neighborhood information. This information is important to various safety applications i.e. cooperative collision warning, emergency electronic brake lights etc. For smooth functionality of these applications it is necessary that SBs be properly delivered to neighboring vehicles. This study explores the single-hop V2V periodic safety beacons loss rate and its causes through extensive simulations. Simulations are carried out in Network Simulator 2 using deterministic (Two-Ray Ground) and probabilistic (Nakagami) propagation environments. © 2011 IEEE.
