Abstract

Desktop Search Utility (DSU) is becoming more popular as both personal and enterprise computer users are finding that sorting and organizing files that are getting bigger in both size and quantity is getting more difficult. This paper will discuss the development of Desktop Search Utility for Linux by integrating the web-based interface by using Java script with command line indexer program Namazu to search text files located in the hard drive. Currently, this system is developed and tested on Debian distribution of the Linux Operating System and it could only search for text files. This system refers to this index files when processing the searching for user's request in a fast and produces effective results. As a result, the development of this system is based on the University of Wisconsin (UW) E-Business Consortium search engine usability benchmark criteria. ©2007 IEEE.
