Abstract

Litho-facies classification is a crucial step in reservoir characterization. It becomes more important once lithology identification needs to be conducted in a Clastic reservoir for discrimination of shale and sand layers. For this purpose there are several practical and useful attributes which can be employed for litho-facies prediction away from the wells after pre-stack seismic inversion. Vp/Vs, µ? and SQp are among the most prominent attributes that are widely utilized in industry as a direct indicator of clay volume. Considering effective anisotropic medium, Alkhalifah introduced anisotropic parameter (?) which is well known for separating shale from sand and is similar to smoothed gamma ray log. A new anisotropic parameter (v) is presented in this study which compared to (?) would be competitive and more accurate for lithology identification especially in a finely layered media. © 2019 SEG
