This paper analyzed and evaluated the output power and efficiency characteristics from five new compensation circuits for inductively coupled power transfer (ICPT) system. These compensations are series-series (SS), double-sided inductor capacitor capacitor (LCC), inductor capacitor capacitor-series (LCC-S), SS detuned and inductor capacitor-series (LC-S). The parameter tuning of all passive components for compensation circuits was presented in equations form before circuit analysis. All topologies were analyzed with inductive power transfer (IPT) equivalent circuit model using Kirchhoff Law theorem and matrix operation in MATLAB platform. Based on simulation result, although the SS compensation scheme generated the highest output power at low coupling coefficient, followed by an LC-S scheme, the flexibility of LC-S tuning has the advantage over than the SS scheme. Other topologies were underperformed in output power yet each of them has its specialty according to their purposed design. © 2018 Institution of Engineering and Technology. All rights reserved.
