Abstract

Drawing using pencil and paper seems to be a natural activity for children, even from a young age. The current generation seem to not only use the traditional method of drawing on paper but also on touch surfaces. While the occurrence of touch interaction surfaces has been the phenomena of today's technology, there is still a lack of study between the relation of children's drawing activity with the use of touch technology. In this paper, our work intends to identify how children from the age of 5 to 11 years old plan their drawing on a touchscreen device according to established drawing strategies of drawing on paper. The work will be focusing on certain types of drawing task such as embedded, stacking and structured shapes, while looking into the children's drawing strategy. In particular, we want to examine the relation of how the type of tasks in drawing are related to the type of gestures in touch screen. The work is motivated by the psychology of drawing by looking into motor and cognitive abilities among children but in the context of touch interaction. © 2017 IEEE.
