Electro-Fenton (E-Fenton) method was adopted to treat the hazardous waste landfill leachate in investigating the COD removal efficiency. This study was conducted in batch mode in a 500 ml glass beaker using Ti/RuO2 electrodes for both anode and cathode. To enhance the conductivity of the medium at the higher current densities, sodium sulphate was used as electrolyte. The operating conditions involved in the study were molar ratio (H2O2/Fe2+), Fentons reagent dosage, current density and electrolysis time. Optimization of operating conditions was carried out one at a time keeping other conditions constant. The sequence used for the optimization was molar ratio, Fenton reagents dosage, current density and reaction time. It was determined that the COD removal efficiency increased as the molar ratio, dosage and current is increased up to a certain value beyond which the efficiency retarded. Whereas the increase in the electrolysis time showed constant COD removal efficiency after 90 min duration unlike other operating conditions. At the optimum operating conditions the highest COD removal efficiency obtained was 82.38. © IAEME Publication
