Short Biography:

Ir. Ts. Dr. Yew Ming Chian is a distinguished researcher and academic in engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Materials Engineering, a Master of Engineering Science, and a Ph.D. in Structural Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Malaya (UM). After gaining experience in the building and Oil & Gas industries, Dr. Yew joined Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) following a decade at the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering, University of Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to various research areas and has demonstrated excellence in his field.

Dr. Yew's primary research focus is on Intumescent Fire Protective Coatings and Advanced Fire Protection Materials, ensuring compliance with British Standards. He is a pioneer in intumescent fire protective coatings in Malaysia. His research also includes Cool Roofing Technologies Systems, Fire Protection Composite Materials, Renewable Energy, Construction Building Materials, Sustainable Materials, and Advanced Materials Technology. Recognized with numerous international awards, Dr. Yew has secured 16 project grants totaling over RM1 million in seven years and holds ten intellectual property rights. In 2020, he received the Most Innovative Excellent Award from the university.

Actively involved in the academic community, Dr. Yew reviews several SCI-Q1 journals and has published over 100 technical papers, including more than 50 in high-impact Q1/Q2 journals. He has authored four invited books and three book chapters. He serves as a Lead Guest Editor for the Frontier in Built Environment journal, a Guest Editor for Coatings, and sits on the Editorial Board of the Current Materials Science Journal. In addition to his research and academic achievements, Dr. Yew collaborates with various companies on consultancy work and is frequently invited as a keynote and guest speaker at conferences and seminars both locally and internationally. His research, derived from patented intellectual property and industry collaboration, has earned him recognition as an expert in his field.

Dr. Yew holds several professional qualifications, including registered Professional Engineer (Ir.) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council UK, and Professional Technologist (Ts.) with the Malaysia Board of Technologists. He is a Member of The Institution of Fire Engineers (UK) (MIFireE), a Council Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK) Malaysia Branch (2023-2025), and a Committee Member of the IEM Material Engineering Technical Division (2024-2025).

Dr. Yew's dedication to research, extensive publication record, consultancy involvement, and active engagement in the academic community have established him as a respected figure in engineering, particularly in fire protection, sustainable materials, and advanced materials technology.
