  • In 2019, Dr. Vorathin conducted training on Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors for Structural Health Monitoring. This project included the fabrication of a Fibre Bragg Grating Measurement System for Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), aimed at advancing the university's research and monitoring capabilities. The initiative was valued at RM31,379.00, highlighting its significant scope and impact.

Patents:
  • Earlier in 2018, Dr. Vorathin patented an Online Impact Damage Monitoring System for Real-Time Structural Health Monitoring (Application No. PI 2018701581), which remains under substantive examination. This invention focuses on real-time monitoring solutions to detect and address impact damage in engineering structures, underscoring his dedication to advancing structural health monitoring technologies.
  • In 2020, Dr. Vorathin further expanded his innovative portfolio with a patent for An Apparatus to Monitor Static and Dynamic Signals (Application No. PI 2020006650). This apparatus is designed to enhance the monitoring and analysis of structural responses in real-time, providing valuable insights for maintaining system integrity. The patent is currently awaiting substantive examination, demonstrating its potential significance in the field.

Professional qualification:
  • International Association of Engineers (IAENG), Hong Kong - Lifetime Member (349996)
  • Board Of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)- Graduate Engineer (GE140173A)

Research Grant:
  • Dr. Vorathin A/L Epin is the Principal Investigator for a groundbreaking project focused on the Development of Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) Hydrophone Array and Geophone Array for Subsurface Seismic Monitoring of Carbon Storage. This ongoing research, funded by TOTALENERGIES EP MALAYSIA with a grant of RM2,085,094, aims to develop innovative sensor arrays to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of subsurface seismic monitoring, particularly for carbon storage applications. The project reflects Dr. Vorathin's leadership in advancing fibre optic sensing technologies for sustainable engineering solutions on a national scale.
  • In 2022-2023, Dr. Vorathin also led a research initiative titled Analysis of Leak Localization Using Negative Pressure Wave (NPW) Method with Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) Pressure Sensors. Funded under the Short Term Internal Research Funding (STIRF) program with a grant of RM25,000, this study investigated the application of FBG sensors and NPW methods to improve the detection and localization of pipeline leaks. The research demonstrated his commitment to practical innovations in structural health monitoring and system integrity.
